The original line starts with Adam de Gordun 1035-1093 he had a son Adam who died at the battle of the standard 1138 he had two sons Richard and Adam.

Richard had a son Thomas who had a son Thomas who had only one daughter Alicia de Gordun 1230-1280

Adam known as of Huntly and Faunes (Berwickshirte) had a son Alexander who had a son Adam who had a son Adam 1254-1296

Adam 1254 married his cousin Alicia 1230 and brought the line back one branch. They had a son Adam de Gordun who fell at Dunbar 1296 he married Margorie Comyn (Cummings) and they had a son Adam de Gordun 1273-1333 (Arbroath fame) he married
Annabella ? ( possibly Stewart) they had two sons Adam of Strathbogie (Aberdeenshire) ( See below) and William of Stitchel (Berwickshire) (See right top column)

Adam of Strathbogie had a son Sir John Gordon who died at otterburn 1376 ( Note name change the 'de' is gone.)
Sir John had two sons, Sir John and Sir Adam.

Sir John had two natural son Jock and Tam ( John & Thomas) See below left.

Sir Adam was killed at Homildon Hill 1402 and he only had a daughter Elizabeth see below right

This line starts with William of Stitchel (Berwickshire Line) whose son was Roger de Gordun of Stitchel who had a son
Alexander de Gordun of Stitchel whose son was Roger of Stitchel whose son was William of Stitchel ( Young Lochinvar of the poem by Sir Walter Scott) who had four sons : Sir John, Alexander George and Roger.

Sir John founded the following lines: Balmagjie, Baiinbarroch, Buittle, Craichlaw,Culvennan, Gelston, Glenluce, Grange, Greenlaw, Holm, Kenmure, Lochinvar, Muirfield and Penynghame.

Alexander founded the following lines: Auchendolly, Auchenreoch, Bar, Barharrow, Bamhead, Bristol, Burnshaw, Campbellton, Carleton, Colquha, Cullindoch, Earlston, Halheath, Kilsture, Kirkconnel, Whytpark and Wincombe Park

George founded the Troquhain line and Roger the Crogo line.


Sir John married twice firstly to Elizabeth Somervell to whom she had two children Adam and Mary, his second marriage was a handfast marriage to Elizabeth Cruikshank of Aswanly whose father was an Advocate.who gave birth to John also known as Jock O'Scurdargue and Thomas also known as Tam O'Ruthven. These two then became the largest branches of all the Gordons and many of the US Gordons descend from this line.


JOCK O'Scurdargue Gordon had four sons Alexander, John, William and James.

Alexander founded the following lines: Arbroylach, Arradoul, Auchinhuif, Buckie, Cairnfield, Cracullie, Deskie, Drumin, Glengarrock, Inverharroch, Knawen, Knockespock, Minmore, Netherbuckie, Prony, Tulloch and Wellheads.

John founded the following lines: Achanachie, Artloch, Auchmull, Auchoynany, Avochie, Bad, Balbithan, Botarie,Cairnbarrow, Cainwhelp, Carnousie, Drumhead, Drumwhindle, Edinglassie, Farskane, Fechil, Glenbucket, Gollachie, Hilton, Invermarkie, Kindrocht, Kinmundy, Lungar, Park, Pitlurg,Rothiemay, Soccoth, Straloch, & Techmuirie.

William founded the following lines. Ardmealie, Auchintoul, Auchline, Auchmenzie, Badinscoth, Balmad, Banchory, Barnes, Birkenburn, Blelack, Bogardie, Bourtie, Buthlaw, Cairness, Coldstone, Collithie, Coynachie, Cracuille, Craig, Criche, Culdrain, Darley, Dilspro, Dorlaithers, Drumbulg, Drymes, Fernachty, Fulziemont, Johnsleys, Kincraigie, Kinnor, Knock, Law, Leicheston, Lesmoir and Manar, Meldrum, Newton, Oxhill, Terpersie, Tillchowdie, Tillyangus and Wardhouse.

James founded the following lines: Auchleuchries, Balnmuir, Bonnyton, Braco, Fetterletter, Hado, E Aberdeen Stanmore, Methlick, Nethermuir, Savoch, Scotstown, Sheelagreen, Tillyfelt.

Tam O'Ruthven had five(5) wives and 22 children. howver we do not seem to have a clear lineage od this line anywhere but we do know he founded the following lines; Ardmilan, Auchinreath, Auchinstink, Balveny, Brochrom, Braickley, Clunymore, Contie, Daach, Hallhead, Kennertie, Kethocksmills, Kinerie, Noth, Pethnick, Pitglassie and Sauchen.

Elizabeth Gordon married Alexander Seton to claim her fathers estates. They had two sons, Alexander Seton and William Seton

Alexander seton changed his name to Gordon and took the title of Earl of Huntly whilst his brother William remained a Seton and took the tital Earl of Tranent founding the Setons of Berwick. Hence forth the Gordons and Setons are very closely aligned.

Alexander had three sons George who became the 2nd Earl, Alexander Gordon and Adam Gordon

Alexander founded the following lines: Abergeldie, Birkhall, Craibstone, Grandholm and Haffield.

Adam founded the following lines: Backies, Beldornie, Drumoy, Golstitur, Sidderay and Wardhouse

George the Second Earl of Huntly had three (3) sons Alexander 3rd Earl; William and James.

Alexander founded the following lines: Marquis of Huntly, Duke of Richmond, Auchindoun, Auchdregny, Birsemoir, Cluny, Cotton, Croughly, Delmore, Dunkinty, Gartay, Gordonstoun, Pittendreich, Ruthven, & Tombae.

Williams line founded Ardlogie and Gight whilst James founded the following lines: Chappleton, Coffurach, Cromiliat, Corridoun, Lerrfourie, Myrieton and Orkney.

Now there are still branches that are undetermined as to whose line they fit: Seton Gordons at Aberdour, Achnascra, Ardneidle, Bonty, Embo, Enzie, Girnoc, Grandholm, Inverurie, Littlemill, Moray, Netherdale, Nevay, Ordiquish, Schivas, Strathavon, Sutherland, Touch/Tulch.
Jock & Tam line includes Balmad, Bochrom, Bogardoie, Batrie, Brackley, Contie, Hilton
