Why should I become a member of the House of Gordon?

This is an often asked question but before I answer it there are a few questions you need to ask yourself.
Why did you want to look up this web site? Why do you want to go to the highland gathering?
Is there not a feeling of some kind when you hear the pipes or see them struggle with a caber or lift the stones of manhood or watch the swirl of the kilt as they dance the Highland dances? When you talk about your family or the clan does it not give you a sense of something? Do you feel drawn to this place or the gatherings?

My answer is this. You are already a Gordon by name or Sept association or historically, You are a gordon becaues you have a line that leads back to Scotland or the Gordon families or it means something to you even though you cannot put your finger on it.

That feeling is the "Spirit", The Spirit of our ancestors and their heritage, it is in us all and its there calling us, it is a sense of belonging, it is part of us because part of our ancestors is part of what makes us, us. It is an essence of life passed on from each generation to the next, part of our very soul. It makes us who and what we are. It is more than Scottish or family pride it is something that binds us together, it is something inside us that wants to know more. Remember we are the "Gey Gordons", Gey means "spirited". passionate, animated sometimes headstrong, strong willed and often stubborn but with a deep love of family, life and freedom.

The word Clann is Gaelic meaning 'Children of' so we are the children of our ancestors brought together by that spirit. It is a concept that for some unknown reason stirs something deep inside. Something of our past that draws us together by reason of Geography, blood or history.

There is an old Gaelic saying, " Cuimhnich air na daoine o'na d'thainig thu! "
(Remember the people from whence you came). Another anonymous says says "you cannot know your full potential unless you have had a chance to discover your ancestors, their triumphs, trials, achievements and hard times. You cannot go forth into the future without knowing from whence you came." I guess this means that that spirit needs to be unlocked so that you can do what your heart and mind tells you it can. The Gordon Clansmen have always been achievers, you only have to see the History of the Family and the Gordon Highlanders.We have among our numbers many famous people who have achieved great things.
